2026 Upgraded Japanese Style Long Blade Skiving Knife – Böhler N690 Stainless Steel
An updated Japanese-style long blade skiving knife for leather edge skiving, bevel skiving, thinning, and detail cutting.
Compared with a shorter skiving knife, the longer blade gives you a lower cutting angle and a smoother, more controlled push through the leather. It sits closer to the surface, so it’s easier to keep the cut clean and steady, especially around wallet edges, card slots, watch straps, folded edges, and bag-making details.
The main upgrades are in the blade shape, the back grinding, and the steel. The blade is made from Böhler N690 stainless steel, chosen for its sharpness, corrosion resistance, and everyday ease of maintenance. The blade body has a gradual tapered profile, so it still feels solid in hand, but the edge area is easier to sharpen and refine over time.
The back of the blade is flat-ground, not just belt-sanded. That sounds like a small detail, but for skiving it matters. A flatter back gives the knife a cleaner reference surface, which helps the edge enter the leather at a more accurate angle.
The handle is made from North American walnut, paired with an H62 brass ferrule. Warm in the hand, simple in look, and very much a proper bench tool.
